Sep/10 - Tomorrow night's show location changed!
Hello everyone, just a quick but important announcement that tomorrow night's show has been moved from the new Academy in Osborne Village to the original Academy Bar & Eatery. The new venue's opening was delayed. Hope to see you all tomorrow night!
Cheers,
Johnny
May/18 - Over 4,000 viewers for my music video on YouTube!
Wow, I just checked my profile on YouTube today and my video for the song "
If Your Love Were..." on my album
Discoverers has been viewed 4,028 times so far! That's pretty crazy. It must have something to do with the superb acting... ;)
Just thought I'd share my excitement over that with all of you.
Cheers,
Johnny
May/16 - Fun show tonight and other good stuff coming down the pipeline soon
Tonight's show was a fun week night show.
Brenda Neiles had to bow out of the opening slot but her partner in rhyme (is that too cheesy? I think it might be) and most excellent songwriter himself,
Marcel Desilets, quickly came to the rescue.
I played a few songs I haven't played live in some time, including a couple I wrote way back when I first moved to Winnipeg almost 8 years ago, one of which chronicles my brief employment as a telemarketer selling pantyhose (it's true, I don't think I'm creative enough to make something like that up!).
In other news, I've been recording up a storm (or an album?) and it's sounding good. It's fresh and straying fairly far from
Discoverers, so far in fact that I may have to put together a proper lineup to accompany me on stage in the near future. Who knows? Psychics must, I'm sure.
I'm also planning a few more gigs/events for the summer months, so this won't be the last you'll be hearing from me I promise you that.
Cheers,
Johnny
Feb/27 - The Broadcast is Back From the Dead!
After an over 3-month hiatus (not by choice, I assure you), the
Broadcast online radio show is back with a seventh episode featuring a handful of songs and partial songs from a box I discovered while unpacking. Head on over and take a listen!
Cheers,
Johnny
Feb/26 - Long Time No News
It's been a long time ladies and gentlemen. Lots to tell, where to begin. The CD release party was a great success, we packed the house and took it down. I have my recording setup almost put back together again after over a month of interruption, so a new Broadcast episode is soon to come as well.
The hiatus was due to a series of events that were no fun at the time (nor in hindsight) and were obviously very disruptive to the regular order of all things Johnny, but are finally settled now and we're back to a new state of existence that we can once again bestow with the title "normalcy" as if such a thing exists. :)
Unpacking boxes last night I found a pile of about a dozen or more songs I pretty much forgot I had written. Hopefully I can fashion them back into something usable, maybe for the Broadcast. Could be good.
On a lower note, the show at Academy scheduled for March 9th is going to have to go on without me. My generally disorganized state of affairs allowed me to agree to a show on an evening that I already had prior commitments on. However that show still has a great lineup with tons of talent, so do still check it out. Wish I could be there with you guys, howling in the Winnipeg night.
I'll be back on the scene in April though, I promise. In the meantime, look out for a new Broadcast episode or two to keep you warm during the remainder of this winter season.
Cheers,
Johnny
Dec/03 - One Week Until My CD Release Party!
So it's coming down to it at last, one week left until my CD release party. For those not in the know, the show is at 8pm next Saturday, December 9th at the Academy Bar & Eatery (414 Academy). I'll be playing with two guest openers, Drek Daa, and Temporary Arms. The golden-voiced Rachael Hosein will also be gracing us with her backup vocals for this one, as well as a new duet we're working on this week. Guaranteed to be a good show :)
Anyway, thought I'd post this reminder on here. I've been busy doing whatever promotion I've been able to do so far for this thing, and I'll be spending the next week doing more of the same. Can't wait to see everyone next Saturday for the official "Discoverers" unveiling, but for now it's past my bedtime...
Cheers,
Johnny
Nov/19 - Hear Me Play the Ukelele!
For those of you who haven't heard about the new ukelele I recently purchased from
Sled Dog Music and promptly fell in ridiculous, blissful love with, I'm confessing to you now, openly and honestly so that the healing may begin. Actually, I'm writing to say that the latest episode of
The Broadcast, my biweekly online radio special (aka podcast) features me playing 3 songs on my new ukelele. So go check it out, worst case it's definitely good for a laugh at my expense.
Cheers,
Johnny
PS. For those of you considering a plunge into musical creativedom or participancy, I would suggest the giving the ukelele a try for a couple of reasons: First, ukelele's are affordable little instruments. Second, the Hawaiian sound is relaxing -- definitely good after a hard day's night. And lastly, while any instrument takes lots of time to master, the ukelele is fairly easy to get started on (in my admittedly limited experience).
Nov/05 - New 'Broadcast' Episode Featuring 2 New Songs
Just wanted to let everyone know that the
new Broadcast episode is now up for your listening enjoyment. This episode features two songs:
Every Love Dies which is only two days old, and
Winnipeg Town which is likely new to you guys but was originally written a couple years ago during the Christmas holidays.
I've also bought my first ukelele recently (as those of you who caught my last show at the West End Cultural Centre well know), so I'm planning a ukelele theme for the next Broadcast episode. Make sure you subscribe so you don't miss it! :)
Cheers,
Johnny
Oct/21 - Download This Morning's CKUW Interview
This morning's episode of
CKUW's Beer for Breakfast featuring an interview with myself, Stewart McEwen, and Marcel Desilets promoting next Saturday's show at the West End Cultural Centre is now available online for your listening convenience. You'll find it on their website under today's date on their program schedule, or you can
download it here as well (right-click to save).
In other equally exciting news, the latest and greatest episode of
The Broadcast (my biweekly online radio show) is now up featuring an interview and some songs by the talented Rachael Hosein.
And finally, some minor updates since my last news post: The "Discoverers" CD release party has been set for December 9th at the Academy Bar & Eatery, and the CD has also been added to the
iTunes Music Store. More details on the release party will be posted here soon. Stay tuned.
Cheers,
J Broadway
Oct/01 - New Music Video on YouTube
A new music video for the song
"If Your Love Were..." has been posted to YouTube and Google Video. Check it out, rate it, add it to your favourites if you like, and please leave me comments to let me know what you think.
Cheers,
J Broadway
